Discovering Beauty Through the Chaos

If I am being honest sometimes I have a hard time believing that something beautiful can come from chaos. In my own personal life I am all over the place in my mind and heart, I am hard on myself, I overthink, I doubt and often get discouraged in my relationship with God. I don’t think we talk about how hard life can be sometimes because we feel the need to have our life “together”.

Trampolines & Ice Cream

What’s the best way give life to a kid’s story? How to we impact this generation of young people? Sometimes it’s easy to convince ourselves that bringing HOPE to kids is all about creating innovative programs or having intense counselling sessions. But that isn’t always the case. In fact, most times, it is within the simple moments and unassuming experiences that God shows up in unexpected and powerful ways.

Blessed Insurance!

This innovative ministry has had it’s own share of hurdles. For the past year YFC has been trying unsuccessfully to secure the insurance needed to operate. This has been a huge discouragement, as Stable Haven can’t officially start until the insurance is in place. After so many closed doors, we were beginning to wonder if Stable Haven will ever be a reality. But two weeks ago we got news that changed everything!

Delivering Hope to Families in Need

The YFC Drop-In program has been bringing HOPE to the kids and families of the Mayfair community for many years. Every week we open the doors of our YFC building and invite local kids to drop by. Not only is it a safe place for the kids to come and hang out, but we are also able to meet their physical needs by providing a nutritious meal. But when new COVID restrictions were introduced last November, we were no longer able to serve meals to our kids. The DROP IN had to be temporarily closed. But that wasn’t the end of the story…

Bringing Hope Through Skateboarding

The ANTIOCH Skateboard Ministry is all about bringing HOPE to kids through skateboarding. Many of the skater kids I interact with are fairly guarded, and usually emotionally unavailable. But this one day I went to the skatepark and within seconds one of these teenagers came flying up to me on his skateboard. I could not believe what happened next!

Bringing Hope to Teen Moms

The goal of Stepping Stones is to BRING HOPE to teen moms through support, care and community. Many young moms lack healthy family support and the resources they desperately need. And so many teen moms feel isolated and alone. In Canada, the average age of a first time mom is about 29 years old, and so young moms often have a hard time finding a community where they feel they can belong . They suddenly find themselves in a very unique stage of life, so different from most girls their age. Where do they go? Where do they belong?

Kid's Are Dropping In Again

Our community Drop In program has been serving kids and families for many years. The weekly program is run out of our YFC building, ideally located in the Mayfair neighbourhood. Community kids receive a hot meal, fun activities, and a safe place to build relationships with our staff and volunteers. Drop In has been closed since March because of COVID-19, but we are so excited that our doors are once more open to the kid in our community!

How Can We Do Youth Ministry During a Pandemic?

“Unprecedented Times” How often have we heard that phrase in the past 8 months? It seems like everything we have come to know has been turned upside down. Feelings of isolation, uncertainty and disorientation have become the norm. At YFC, this pandemic has been filled with incredible challenges and tough questions. How can we do youth ministry if we can’t actually meet with youth?
