After years and years of running a girls group I have finally settled on a name and future direction of the group. Re:Create, an art based program on Wednesday nights. This will be a place where girls can drop in, and not only learn more about God, but learn how to create and use the hands God has given them to make something beautiful and unique. I am really looking forward to how this can look in the future. Right now with the space we have, we really can only have 10-15 students in the building while social distancing and working on our various art projects. This year so far we have made t-shirts and are working on a macramé plant hanging basket.

As the program develops over time I would love to dig deeper into the arts, whether that looks like art projects, musical arts, dramatic arts or culinary arts, I believe that God has created us to use our hands. Until this year I didn’t realize how much of a passion I have for art in my own life. In order to relax, I sing and play piano; when I am stressed,I crochet or draw or paint. I am so excited to see where this can go in the future. And I can’t wait to see young girls develop their skills as time goes on.

Last year we learnt how to crochet together, and one of the girls who had never crocheted before messaged me and said , “I think I will crochet in real life”. She went on to create a blanket the next week and has not stopped creating through crocheting since. These are the skills I want to teach, because when life gets hard for me, it is through the arts that I connect the closest with Jesus. And that is my hope for these girls as well. To get them off their phones and create!
