Psalm 116
I love the Lord, for he heard my voice;
he heard my cry for mercy.
Because he turned his ear to me,
I will call on him as long as I live.
The Lord is gracious and righteous;
our God is full of compassion.
The Lord protects the unwary;
when I was brought low, he saved me.
What shall I return to the Lord
for all his goodness to me?
I will lift up the cup of salvation
and call on the name of the Lord.
I will fulfill my vows to the Lord
in the presence of all his people.
I like praise psalms. I feel like David is a little child that's given an unlimited credit card in a candy store and he's like "Wait, I can have that too!?!"
He actually calls out the things that we take for granted and reminds us of the blessing it really is to have those particular things. Which is pretty cool.
Like why would He protect the unwary? If they're so stupid to get themselves into situations shouldn't they just have to figure it out?
Why does He listen to me when I'm low. I'm the worst. All I do is moan and complain. Why does He turn His ear to me?
Why is He gracious and compassionate? He doesn't have to be. I feel like if He was an authoritarian dictator things would run smoother because He'd just make us do things whether we like it or not.
What can I give to the Lord...? Why is He so gracious...?
Also, Mitch and I got stuck talking about verse 15 so I'll throw it in here to think about.
Precious in the sight of the Lord
is the death of his faithful servants.
