Psalm 111
Praise the Lord.
I will extol the Lord with all my heart
in the council of the upright and in the assembly.
Great are the works of the Lord;
they are pondered by all who delight in them.
Glorious and majestic are his deeds,
and his righteousness endures forever.
He has caused his wonders to be remembered;
the Lord is gracious and compassionate.
He provides food for those who fear him;
he remembers his covenant forever.
How important are answered prayers to you?
Do you make a point of writing them down?
Do you have prayers answered often?
Do you even feel like He's listening?
Throughout the story of the Bible, we cannot escape the fact that God loves to be known for what He's done (look it up, it's everywhere). It's a weird thing where you get to have this powerful friend you brag about all the time.
At least you're supposed to.
Spurgeon said, "The more we pray, the more we shall want to pray. The more we pray, the more we can pray. The more we pray, the more we shall pray. He who prays little will pray less, but he who prays much will pray more. And he who prays more, will desire to pray more abundantly."
There's a Francis Chan story that I can't kick out of my head, and it's become my bar for whether or not I'm actually following God's will for my life, or if I'm veering off into my own selfishness. Take it as you will, but I think it's important.
Chan told his daughter, if you want to ruin everything you see in our family, find a guy that doesn't love Jesus. Later, he noticed her hanging out with this guy, but not really committing to anything. He asked what was up and all she said is "I'm seeing whether his prayers are answered or not. You know Jesus dad. Your prayers are always answered. If he really does know Jesus, then his will too. I'm just waiting to see if that happens."
Pray more. You might get it right one of these days. It'll lead you to praise.
It's awesome.
