Trampolines & Ice Cream

What’s the best way give life to a kid’s story?  How to we impact this generation of young people?  Sometimes it’s easy to convince ourselves that bringing HOPE to kids is all about creating innovative programs or having intense counselling sessions.  But that isn’t always the case.  In fact, most times, it is within the simple moments and unassuming experiences that God shows up in unexpected and powerful ways.

The other week, my wife Jenna and I were blessed to be able to share a special moment with two girls that are a part of our hockey league.  We picked them up on an evening and took them out for their birthday.  We asked what they wanted to do and they told us Apex Trampoline Park.  So that’s what we did.  I don’t really care for Apex (maybe because I am not their age demographic) but I was still excited to spend time with them doing something they enjoy.  Jenna used to work at Apex so she was able to teach the girls some fancy bouncing tricks.  The evening didn’t there.

Everyone had such a good time and Jenna and I were tired, but they weren’t so we took them to go get ice cream where Jenna currently works (Fable Ice Cream).  It was so much fun to spend time with the girls and laugh, smile, share stories, enjoy one another and give them a fun safe evening.  It is so good to be able to bless them and show them how special, valued, and honoured they are. These are moments that will hopefully stay with them for a lifetime.

It was bitter-sweet as they told us they might move away again.  This was disappointing but just reminded us that we have no idea how long God places us in these kid’s lives.  We can choose to be sad and begin the mourning process before they even leave or we can just continue to pour into their lives and share the love and HOPE of Christ with them.  We never know what God has in store for us but we are called to faithfully serve Him in whatever He throws our way.
