RE:CREATE
BRINGING HOPE THROUGH THE CREATIVE ARTS
Re:Create is a NEW creative arts program for students age 12-19 in Saskatoon and area. Over the past 6 years at YFC, Carmen Pahl has led a lot of small group events where students have participated in many different projects focused around art, health and fitness and the culinary arts, but as time went on she came to realize her passion for the arts. Her desire to provide a space for students to come and be creative started to grow! It was 2020, at the heart of Covid when the dream for Re:Create was born.
Now in 2021 youth gather together on Monday nights 7-9:30pm at the YFC Building to create various projects in partnership with local artists and organizations focused around the creative arts.
More than ever we are seeing the impact of Covid affect the youth in Saskatoon. Depression, loneliness, thoughts of suicide, lack of human connection are all very real struggles youth are facing today. They are in need of hope, something to take their minds off their circumstance and give them something to do, a place that is safe. Re:Create aims to bring hope to students in Saskatoon through the creative arts. Eventually the dream would be to run Re:Create as an creative arts drop in program where students could come everyday after school and express who God has made them to be through the arts; whether it is culinary arts, music, painting, the typical “grandma arts (a personal favourite)”, like knitting, crocheting and sewing to wood working and working and creating art with your hands. There is so much room to grow and we are so excited to continue to expand Re:Create as the space and the funds allow.
