2015 PROJECT SERVE JAMAICA
APPLICATION GUIDE

WHY JAMAICA?

This February 2015, we are excited to continue the ministry of Project Serve in Jamaica. Although Jamaica is a tourist location, there is also extreme poverty and need of the gospel. We will continue working along side of Jamaica Youth With a Mission (YWAM). Founded in 1960, YWAM is an interdenominational non-profit organization found in hundreds of countries all over the world. YWAM Jamaica places its focus on developing leaders, as well as reaching out to the poor through various community based programs. We are excited to continue this partnership and serve the people of Jamaica.

THE NATURE AND WORK OF OUR MINISTRY

Project Serve Jamaica is designed for students who are excited for a variety of ministry opportunities; the students will all be stretched in their current skills and leadership ability while building a house with the Homes of Hope YWAM Ministry. Homes of Hope researches families in need and helps teams to build a simple sturdy home within one week. The community and local church join with the family to lay the foundation, and our team will finish the home.

We will also serve by sharing testimonies, leading games and songs in a children's home, and bringing the hope of Christ to the people of Jamaica. We are very excited about this adventure and will be prayerfully considering the team that God is building.

We we also be working alongside the local YWAM (Youth With A Mission) base just outside of Belmopan, Belize. We will live on the YWAM base, and serve them any way that we can. YWAM has a very powerful ministry in Belize, and we are honored to partner with them in any way possible. Our contributions this year may include some light construction on the new YWAM base going up right in the heart of the capital city of Belize. Other ministry opportunities may include sharing and serving in several local schools (leading music, drama, sharing testimonies, one-on-one tutoring, and helping in classrooms), and contributing in services in a local church, both with the children and adults.

*NOTE ABOUT PROJECT SERVE SCHEDULING

One of the first and most important lessons learned on a trip like this is that schedules don‘t always go exactly the way they are planned. The weather, a broken down truck, waiting for supplies or equipment; any number of factors will teach patience and flexibility. However, we want you to have an idea of how you will spend your time while on this PROJECT SERVE trip. A suggested itinerary will be provided closer to the departure date.

INTRO TO FUNDRAISING

Every Team Member will be required to raise $2800 (maximum) towards the total Project Serve budget. Fundraising happens though personal correspondence, church contacting, and a dessert auction held in December. All team members will be assisted and encouraged by their team leaders to reach their personal financial goals.

1. DEADLINE FOR DOLLARS

Deadlines for having your $2800 in to the YFC® Office are as follows:

  • $200 deposit required with application (refunded if applicant is not part of 2015 PROJECT SERVE team)
  • $1400 required by December 15, 2014
  • $2800 required by February 1, 2015

We will periodically e-mail students a list of their donors. We recommend that students use this list to send thank you notes to donors, and to keep track of how well they are doing at meeting the deadlines.

If you become a PROJECT SERVE team member, you will receive a complete fundraising packet and a document named “THE GUIDE” at the orientation meeting. You will receive additional fundraising information
at team training sessions.
