Special Message from the PS Belize Director
WHO IS YOUTH FOR CHRIST?
PROJECT SERVE is a division of Youth for Christ®. YFC® works globally with junior high and senior high school students. The organization is involved with weekly clubs, gym programs, and special events. Through various programs, trips and events we desire to see these young people develop as balanced individuals: physically, mentally, socially and spiritually. WHAT IS PROJECT SERVE?
In 2002, Saskatoon Youth For Christ launched a new cross cultural missions initiative: "Project Serve". Since then, over 200 students have participated in Project Serve mission trips to Nicaragua, Belize and Jamaica. We take seriously the command of Jesus to love our neighbours and to serve the world. We also hold tight to James 1:27 which says: “Religion that God our Father accepts as pure and faultless is this: to look after orphans and widows in their distress…” With its sixty-two years of youth ministry experience, 24 local chapters across Canada, and its network of indigenous ministries in more than 100 countries of the world, Youth for Christ® is uniquely positioned to provide an outstanding missions experience for students wanting to serve. This is Saskatoon Youth For Christ’s 13 year anniversary with Project Serve ministry!
WHAT ARE WE DOING THIS YEAR?
Project Serve is planning a trip to the country of Belize during the Winter school break, February 2018. While in Belize the team will be involved in various projects. We are blessed to be working in partnership with the King’s Children’s Home, just outside of Belmopan. They have been working tirelessly for five years to fundraise and build a brand new facility to house the 100 children who currently live there. These kids received the Christmas gift of a lifetime a few years ago and moved into their new house on December 24th of 2013! The house is completed for the most part, but they still have a wish lists of projects to be finished both on their land and in the home. Our team is so excited for the opportunity to continue to build into the home and bring it as close to completion as possible. There are also a few additional ministries we will partner with while we are there including YWAM Belize, and In His Hands kid’s club.
We have begun our training and preparation as a team. We are meeting together once a month until our trip in February to work on leadership development and team building. This trip will allow our team to go beyond their comfort zone, and it is an opportunity to experience the power of serving God and others. Through Project Serve, this team of young people will be stretched and challenged in many ways. The team will undergo an intensive pre-trip training process, participating in a group fundraiser, and serving the people of Saskatoon in a local project.
HOW CAN YOU PARTNER WITH US?
There are two exciting and meaningful ways to partner with our PROJECT SERVE BELIZE team!
1. PRAY FOR US
Most importantly, we as a team need your prayers during this trip and after as we immerse ourselves in a country and culture that are different than home. We will experience first hand the poverty that most Belizeans live in. Pray that God would provide strength, both physically and spiritually, as we serve in Belize. Pray also for safety as we travel. Visit our blog while we are gone to hear about our adventure and receive up to date prayer requests.
2. HELP US ACHIEVE OUR FINANCIAL GOALS
Would you consider a financial gift towards the expenses for our trip?
* Each team member is trying to raise $2800 of the total budget.
* We would appreciate it if you could respond by making a donation to the mission.
You can donate online easily and safely through CanadaHelps!
If you have any questions or comments, feel free to call us at 306-242-7117. Thank you so much for your time and consideration.
Sincerely in Christ,
PROJECT SERVE BELIZE DIRECTOR
